Hopjacks: Dog Days of Summer

Hopjacks is partnering with Sea Dog Brewing Company for their "Dog Days of Summer" special running from June 1st to July 31st. For every Sea Dog beer sold, they will be donating 10% to SouthBARK.

Dog Days of Summer Flyer

SouthBARK is a local animal rescue charity. You can check out their webpage for more information and follow them on Facebook as well.

In addition to all year-round Sea Dog brews, Hopjacks is bringing in exclusive draft selections to sweeten the deal. Sunfish Brewer's Choice Wheat is already available on tap at all three locations, and the following beers will soon be added (with descriptions from Sea Dog's website):

Old Gollywobbler Brown

A traditional and true English mild session ale. A rich, malty profile is punctuated by hints of hop flavor and aroma. A complex, understated fruitiness makes the signature statement.

Windjammer Blonde Ale

A refreshing, straw-colored ale with a fruity palate and a crisp finish. The intense aromatics of Cascade hops are balanced by the richness of traditional two-row British malted barley.

So cool down during the summer heat with some great beer from Sea Dog Brewing while helping out some of our less fortunate furry friends.

Swamp Party Tap Takeover

If you follow Pensacola Beer then you probably remember our post back in February happily announcing that Swamphead Brewery, located in Gainesville, was now being distributed to our area of Florida. Hopefully you've had a chance to get your hands on some of their beer but if you haven't, or want to try even more, then you are in luck.

Chan's Wine World Grand Blvd, their Sandestin location is holding a Swamp Party Tap Takeover. For our Pensacola readers, it will be a short road trip but sounds like it will be well worth it.

The event will provide not only the chance to try six of Swamp Head's beer offerings but will also provide "swamp inspired" food to pair with it. At least one of the beers available will be a rare offering from their Spasmodic Series, Catherine’s Inspiration. Catherine's Inspiration is a Russian Imperial Stout (RIS) which Swamp Head describes on its website as

An amazingly balanced Russian Imperial Stout that will leave you with a veracious appetite for more.

Bug 'n Brews Crawfish Cook-Off

Fairhope Brewing Company is hosting the Bugs 'n Brews Crawfish Cook-Off this Saturday, May 25 from 4 - 8 pm. This event, put together by the Bama WINErs is a charity event benefiting the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Cook-Off Trophy The Crawfish Cookoff will pit three contestants, who each claim to make the best crawfish in the world, against each other. But we all know "there can be only one" and that one will be taking home a trophy, fabricated by Anytime Welding's James McMahon, to prove it.

The event will also feature live music, a silent auction, and a raffle. Silent auction items include two sets of weekend passes to Bay Fest, two sets of VIP Bay Fest Passes, and other great items.

The children of St. Jude will receive all the profits from admission fees, silent auction revenues, and raffle proceeds.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $20 or at the event for $25. You can also purchase tickets by contacting Daphne at (251) 233-7500 or bamawiners@gmail.com.

Your ticket purchase gets you entry into event, all-you-can-eat crawfish, and a raffle ticket. As the ticket purchase price is entirely donated to St. Jude, they are tax deductible.

Hopjack's Pig & Beer Dinner

As part of Hopjacks American Craft Beer Week (ACBW) event lineup, they will be holding a Beer Dinner this Wednesday, May 15th at their Nine Mile Road location. Anyone who attended last month's Dogfish Head A Hop Eclipse Now! This will be a four course dinner, consisting of the following (the beer pairing selections have not been released yet):

1st course: Farm egg baked in bacon fat, grilled focaccia, Spanish seranno ham, chive oil.

2nd course: Red beans and rice, smoked ham hock, wild boar sausage.

3rd course: Cider-brined seared pork tenderloin, salad of mixed greens, shaved fennel and Fuji apple finished in an apple-bacon vinaigrette.

4th course: Blondie (opposite of brownie), praline bacon, smoked pecan, caramel whipped cream.

Daphne's First Craft Beer Festival: 99 Bottles of Beer on the Lawn

Southern Napa, located in Daphne Alabama, is a wine shop that opened in 2012. They later expanded their offerings to include craft beer and recently announced that they are hosting Daphne's first craft beer festival on Saturday, May 11th from 1 - 5 pm.

The festival "99 Bottles of Beer on the Lawn" will take place on Southern Napa's "front yard" and will consist of 99 different craft beer offerings for participants to sample. There will also be an on-site pet adoption hosted by the Baldwin Humane Society. Musician Brett LaGrave will be performing at the event. Festival tickets can be purchased online for $25 and includes a commemorative pint glass ($30 at the gate).

The festival will be held in conjunction with a 5K run presented by the Animal Wellness Center in Fairhope. The race will start at noon, race tickets can be purchased online for $20 and includes a race shirt ($25 the day of the event). You can save even more by purchasing a combo (festival and 5k) for $40.

Tickets for the festival and race can also be purchased by calling Southern Napa: (251) 375-2800. You can keep up-to-date with the festival and run on Facebook and on Twitter.

Attendees will also have the chance to meet Captain Wild Bill Wichrowski, who you might know as the Crab Boat Captain from Discovery Channel's Deadliest Catch. He will be attending both the festival and participating in the run.

So take advantage of this great opportunity to make a day trip to beautiful Daphne, support a great cause (possibly bringing home a furry new family member), burn some calories running the 5K, and make room to sample an impressive collection of craft beer.
