Top of the Hops at the Wharf 2013

It's Beer Festival Season and first up is the 2nd Annual Top of the Hops Beer Festival at The Wharf in Orange Beach Alabama (an hour from Pensacola) on Saturday, August 10th from 4pm to 8pm.

Sponsored by Abita Beer, attendees will have the chance to sample over 150 world-class beers from around the world including several not available in Florida (Fairhope Brewing, Good People Brewing, Tallgrass Brewing).

General admission tickets are $34.99 in advance and include a souvenir 2-Ounce mug for unlimited sampling, music by Ryan Balthrop and Friends, as well as access to the Samuel Adams Brew University Tent with Seminars including Cooking with Beer, Brewing 101, and Pairing Beer with Food.

A limited number of VIP tickets are on sale for $75 and allow entrance to the festival an hour early, access to the VIP lounge, private beer tasting selections not available to general admission ticket holders, and complimentary food.

Designated drivers can purchase non-drinking tickets for $15, or choose the VIP designated driver ticket for $10 more and enjoy early access to the festival as well as to the VIP lounge and complimentary food.

Top of the Hops at the Wharf is an outside festival, but if the weather turns rainy, as it did last year, the event will move inside.

Pensacola Area's 2013 Beer Festival Lineup

August starts a favorite time of year for many craft beer drinkers - Beer Festival Season. The good news is that there are festivals happening in the Pensacola area every month through November.

Actually, Southern Napa surprised us this year and held the first annual "99 Bottles of Beer on the Lawn" in Daphne, AL back in May. It's great to see they've already made plans to hold the event next year on May 10th and we now have it on our radar.

Consider this a "read-ahead" so that you can start planning which festival(s) you would like to attend. We will be posting about each one of these festivals individually as they get closer to happening. So expect to see our post about Top of the Hops - The Wharf Beer Fest any day now.

New Belgium Arrives in Pensacola

For those who have been patiently waiting for New Belgium Brewing to distribute to Florida, your wait is almost over. New Belgium officially goes on sale in Pensacola and the entire state on July 29th.

Can't wait one second longer than you have to? Then head down to Hopjacks - Downtown on Sunday night, July 28th for the New Belgium brewery release celebration at midnight. (Update: World of Beer will also be holding a midnight release party for New Belgium.)

In addition to Fat Tire, the most popular of the brewery's regular offerings Ranger IPA, Sunshine Wheat, Tripel Belgian Style Ale and Shift Pale Lager will all be available for your enjoyment.

The third largest craft brewery in the U.S. and seventh overall, New Belgium Brewing Company was opened by former home brewer Jeff Lebesch in Fort Collins, Colorado in 1991.

Other New Belgium events are coming to the Pensacola area. We'll release more details as we receive them.

Hopjacks Summer 2013 Beer Dinner

They will be pairing some wonderful courses with beers from Oskar Blues, Sea Dog, Harpoon, and Back Forty, which recently made it's Florida Panhandle debut. If you are interested in attending, get your tickets as soon as possible, as last months dinner sold out.

Great American Beer-cation Banner Participate in World of Beer's promotion for July in collaboration with Samuel Adams and you might just win a trip to the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) in Denver Colorado (October 11th - 13th). The prize includes two roundtrip airline tickets to Denver, two nights hotel stay in downtown Denver, attendance to a private Boston Beer company reception, and two tickets for Saturday evening to the GABF.

The first annual Bluegrass, Bourbon and Brews presented by Jim Beam is being held on August 30th at the Pensacola Bay Center. This event will include beer sampling, bourbon sampling, music, and food. The entertainment lineup consists of three bands: The Grascals, Blue Dogs, and The Honeycutters. Tickets are $40 or $20 for a non-tasting admission.
