Gnome Week 2013

Brown Distributing recently announced "Gnome Week" 2013 in their newsletter. The week is dedicated to "Brasserie d’ Achouffe", the Achouffe Brewery in Belgium and includes events throughout Florida. Brown provided the following details about the week:

Beer weeks are fun and give the whole community an opportunity to experience different beers, beer pairings, unique products from National and Local Breweries and on and on... but this upcoming week is different from all other "Beer Weeks". It is Gnome Week! Gnomes are mystical creatures that date back hundreds of years in lore... What do they possibly have to do with beer?

Brasserie d'Achouffe was founded in the 1970s by Christian Bauweraerts and Pierre Gobron in the quaint village of Achouffe, Belgium. Belgium, being long known for the quality of its unique style of beer, hadn't seen a new brewery open in ages much less one that could produce the quality of the beer that the Brasserie does.

The legend goes that there was a colony of gnomes who once brewed enough beer to keep the entire nation of Belgium drunk year 'round. The beer flowed from a spring in the woods that was once the secret meeting place of the Knights of Templar and also became known as the Valley of the Fairies.

Years later the area was devastated by plague and collapse, thus the goblin brewery was destroyed. The lone survivor, a goblin named A'Chouffe visited the brother-in-laws and imparted the recipe of the classic golden La Chouffe to them. They have included his image on every bottle ever since.

Join us this week for some fun events that celebrate the Gnomes who have passed down this recipe and kept it alive for us to enjoy. They brew some great beer and there will be lots of fun gnomes floating about in their red gnome hats all over town... Will you catch one near you?

There are several "Gnome Week" events planned for our area:

  • Dress Like a Gnome Run
    Location: World of Beer - Palafox (Pensacola)
    When: Wednesday, September 18th, 6pm
    Dress like a Gnome for World of Beer's Run Club. Special discounts for run club participants which will have Chouffe beers available.

  • La Chouffe Brewery Night
    Location: Hopjacks Filling Station (Pensacola)
    When: Friday, September 20th, 6pm
    Brasserie d' Achouffe beers will be available for tasting and drinking as well as glassware and gnome hat giveaways.

  • La Chouffe Brewery Night
    Location: Beach Liquors (FWB)
    When: Friday, September 20th, 6pm
    Gnome Week tasting and beers from Brasserie d' Achouffe. There will also be some glassware and gnome hat giveaways during the event.

  • La Chouffe Brewery Night
    Location: KCs Tap Works (FWB)
    When: Friday, September 20th, 7pm
    Glass giveaways, raffles, and great beer from Brasserie d' Achouffe.

World of Beer & Stone Brewing Bring You STONEhenge

Great American Beer-cation Banner Participate in World of Beer's promotion for July in collaboration with Samuel Adams and you might just win a trip to the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) in Denver Colorado (October 11th - 13th). Never heard of the WoB Loyalty Card? You can read all about it on their website. But to summarize, the card costs $15 and when you sign up you will immediately receive a free WoB t-shirt. Once you have your card, you'll earn a point for every different beer you buy at any WoB and at various point levels you'll earn rewards!

Straight to Ale Florida Panhandle Launch

Just recovering from Back Forty's arrival in Pensacola? Well, there's no rest for the wicked. Next week is launch week of Straight to Ale Brewing to the Pensacola area. Straight to Ale is located in Huntsville, Alabama and they pride themselves on being "Southern Born. Southern Brewed"

Want to learn more about Straight to Ale before the launch events? Draft Magazine featured them as a "Brewery to Watch" earlier this year. Mod Mobilian also just covered Straight to Ale in their new "Drink Local" series.

Back Forty Arrives in the Panhandle

We were happy to recently hear that Back Forty Beer Company based out of Gadsen, Alabama would soon be distributed to the Pensacola area. Well, the time has arrived and you can join others in welcoming Back Forty to the Pensacola area. This week Hopjacks Downtown, World of Beer Palafox, and the Atlas Oyster House are all holding events to welcome this Alabama craft brewery to Pensacola.

Back Forty's current beer lineup includes the following:

Monday, June 10th, Hopjacks - Downtown is holding their official Back Forty Brewing Company launch party. Members of Back Forty brewery will be present from 7 pm - 9 pm and all of their above listed beers will be available for you to try. This is also a pint night, so you get to keep the glass after your first purchase and re-fills are $1.00 off for the rest of the night.

On Tuesday, June 11th, WoB Palafox is also holding a Back Forty pint night. Another chance to try there brews, take home a glass, and of course get more loyalty points!

Also on Tuesday, June 11th, Atlas Oyster House will be holding the final Atlas Beer Class (A.B.C) of the semester starting at 6pm. Back Forty will be the featured brewery for the event which includes appetizers, sample beer tastings, and a meet and greet with Back Forty Brewmaster Tripp Collins. Reservations required (Call Lauren 850.516.2324) and cost is $20 per person.

Stone Week at World of Beer

When you are as well known in the craft beer world as Stone Brewery, you sometimes need more than just a night. Well, World of Beer - Palafox must be in agreement because they have designated Nov 9th - 17th as Stone Week. WOB is holding Stone Week as part of the national "Most Arrogant Bar Challenge" competition.

Stone Brewery, the largest brewery in Southern California and the 11th largest craft brewery in America , was originally founded in 1996 in Marcos, California, before moving to Escondido, California in 2006. Want to learn more? The Stone Brewery website contains tons of information.
