Toasting the End of the World with WoB & Unibroue

As you've probably heard, some claim the world as we know it will end December 21st. Why? Because this date is regarded as the end-date of a 5,125-year-long cycle in the Mayan calendar.

World of Beer - Palafox wants everyone to enjoy the end of days in style, so they're tapping a keg of Unibroue La Fin Du Monde on December 1st. From then until December 21st, every time you buy any Unibroue draft you'll be entered in a drawing to win a case of Unibroue beer for every month in of 2013. That is if there is a 2013...

Fittingly, La Fin Du Monde is French for "End of the World". As described by Unibroue:

It is brewed in honor of the intrepid European explorers who believed they had reached the “end of the world” when they discovered North America ‘the new world’. This triple-style golden ale recreates the style of beer originally developed in the Middle Ages by trappist monks for special occasions and as such it was the first of its kind to be brewed in North America.

The whole event draws to its big conclusion when at the stroke of midnight on December 20th everyone will toast the end of the world with La Fin Du Monde. You can even sign a pledge on the Unibroue site.

World of Beer has you covered for the event as they'll be tapping a La Fin Du Monde keg and drawing the raffle tickets at midnight.

La Fin Du Monde is a Triple-style Golden Ale with the following characteristics:

  • ABV: 9.0%
  • Color: Blonde with a golden hue
  • SRM: 5.5
  • IBU: 19
  • Nose: Floral bouquet, aromas of honey, spice, coriander, malt, and alcohol
  • Flavor: Mildly yeasty with a complex palate of malt, fruit and spice notes followed by a smooth, dry finish
  • Suggested glass: Tulip

You can find many more details regarding La Fin Du Monde on Unibroue's site including pairing suggestions, aging guidance, as well as recipes.

RateBeer lists La Fin Du Monde as 99 overall / 99 style and Beeradvocate rates it a 96 (The Bros a 100).

If it does "all end" at midnight, why not celebrate together with a world class beer? And if the world doesn't end... you've still enjoyed a great beer with friends!

International Stout Day 2012

International Stout Day 2012

IPA isn't the only beer style that has its own "beer holiday". This Thursday, November 8th, is International Stout Day. You may ask yourself, "why do I need a holiday to drink and enjoy a stout?", and I'm in complete agreement.

But beer style "holidays" are about more than just drinking beer. They share your love of craft beer while helping promote both the craft beer scene as well as the specific style.

The official website describes the holiday as:

A worldwide celebration of the iconic beer style, Stout. Taking place in homes, pubs, breweries and restaurants; it’s all about celebrating the craft beer revolution, relishing in this beloved beer style, sharing your photos, tasting notes and events with the world.

The website includes information on stout beer, including style history, recipes that incorporate stout (a versatile beer style for use in cooking), as well as descriptions of the various stout styles.

The diversity of stout styles is one of the great aspects of stout, whether you prefer a dry or sweet stout or something in-between, there is a style for you. If you'd like to try a new stout to celebrate International Stout Day, check out BeerAdvocate's list for each style to help you find the perfect stout for your celebration.

No matter how you celebrate Stout Day, remember to share it with others online by using the #StoutDay hashtag when you post to social media sites. You can also join the Stout Day discussions on their Facebook page. We are not aware of any Stout Day events being held in the Pensacola area but if we hear about any, we will add them to this post. Please contact us if you are aware of any Stout Day events.
